Trade Mission Australia 2026 – Sport, SportTech & Sustainable Smart Communities

From 7–16 September 2026, Orange Sports Forum, in cooperation with the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), the Consulate-General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Sydney, and a cluster of Dutch companies, will organise an exclusive trade mission to Australia for Dutch companies and organisations active in sport, sports technology, sustainable infrastructure, and smart urban development.

The mission is part of the multi-year Partners for International Business (PIB) programme Sport & Sustainable Smart Communities Australia (https://www.orangelegacy.au/), a public-private partnership between Dutch companies, Orange Sports Forum, RVO, and the Dutch government. The programme aims to position Dutch expertise within the Australian market and establish sustainable business relationships in the lead-up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Why Australia?

Australia is entering a unique phase of development. Preparations for Brisbane 2032 are driving an unprecedented wave of investment in sports infrastructure, mobility, smart cities, sustainability, and technology.

In Queensland alone, a significant infrastructure and development agenda is underway and will continue well beyond the Games. This vision is outlined in the policy framework Elevate 2042: Making Our Region Better, Sooner, Together Through Sport.

For Dutch companies, opportunities exist in areas such as:

  • Sports facilities and sports infrastructure
  • Smart cities and sustainable urban development
  • Sports technology and data-driven solutions
  • Mobility and public space development
  • Circular economy and sustainable construction
  • Innovation, knowledge exchange, and research

The Dutch proposition is internationally recognised for its integrated approach, combining sport, technology, sustainability, and urban development. This approach has already proven successful in markets such as China, the Middle East, and the United States.

Programme Highlights

The trade mission will visit three of Australia’s most important economic and sporting centres: Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. Participants will gain access to a unique network of government agencies, sports organisations, knowledge institutions, investment bodies, and private-sector stakeholders.

Melbourne

The mission will commence with participation in SportNXT, one of the leading sports business and innovation conferences in the Asia-Pacific region. The programme will also include a range of site visits and networking activities.

Sydney

In Sydney, participants will meet representatives from organisations including the UNSW Smart Cities Institute, Venues NSW, Investment NSW, and professional sports organisations. There will also be opportunities for tailored business meetings and networking events.

Brisbane

The main focus of the mission will be Brisbane and Queensland, the future host region of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Participants will engage with government agencies, development corporations, sports organisations, and project partners involved in both the Games preparations and the broader urban development of the region.

Part of the PIB Programme

This mission is a key activity within the PIB programme Sport & Sustainable Smart Communities Australia, which supports Dutch companies in establishing a sustainable market position in Australia ahead of Brisbane 2032.

The programme focuses on collective market development, matchmaking, branding, and economic diplomacy, supported by the Dutch government and the network of the Dutch Embassy and Consulates in Australia.

By working together, Dutch companies can strengthen their visibility, market presence, and impact in what is expected to become one of the world’s most attractive sports and infrastructure markets over the coming decade.
